This weekend we continued a newer tradition, in which we take my mom to one of my most favorite places in existence. Klinger Farm Market is located in Chippewa Falls, WI, and is an overwhelming world of greenhouse after greenhouse after greenhouse, containing any and every vegetable and flower plant imaginable. We started going there for Mother's day, with my very special momma, last year, and after this year, I know in the depths of my heart that we will be returning there for many, many years to come. And as part of the tradition, we snag a jumbo sized cart and spend the first hour of our journey scouring for veggie plants for our own personal gardens. And of course, the day wouldn't be half as fun without the little three P's giving their input, picking out the plants and keeping their curious fingers and brains busy!

Exploring
The rest of the trip was all about dragging all our newly found veggies through the floral greenhouses, while trying not to loose our curious kids. By this time, they start getting restless, my hubster is slowly losing patience as each minute passes and I am feeling rushed. So I focus on my mom, the sole reason we are there, and I snag her some amazing hanging baskets as my gift to her, for being there each day as a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on and the one who can make me laugh like no other can. Lastly, I dig up a little somethin' somethin' for myself, and then we head on out!
While waiting in the checkout line, I took notice that my boys were all sitting patiently on some nearby stairs. Since it's rare to see them all sitting, smiling and behaving together AT THE SAME TIME, I had to take this moment as a perfect photo op!

From the farm we spent the rest of the day at the park, picnicking on some grub and watching the kids spend oogles of time pushing one another on the tire swing!
It couldn't have been a more beautiful or heartfelt day.
So what did I end up heading home with, from the plant farm?
Keeping in mind it's only our second year with a veggie garden, and that the total space isn't all that large, we headed home toting:
6 tomato plants
1 red onion plant
1 garlic chive plant
1 basil plant
1 cilantro plant
1 green pepper plant
1 red pepper plant
1 jalapeno plant
1 leaf lettuce plant
1 zucchini plant
2 Pink Diascia and 1 Raspberry Trailing Verbena {for a flower box}
1 Yellow and 1 Pink Dahlia {for my patio table}
1 mixed basket of soft Pink and bright Pink Geraniums {for my front porch planter}
All other flowers around this place, are going to be seed planted, saving me mega moola over years past, in which I typically would go crazy loading up on loads and loads pink blooms for around the Jones yard. Here's to hoping that my thumb starts turning green!
The pink plants I did pick up sure are pretty though!
And I can't wait to see what they look like in their new homes! But no planting for us just yet... we have been dealing with overnight freeze warnings this last week.... oh the joys of living in the Midwest!
What are your Mother's day traditions, if any? Or any fun or memorable or "happy tears" stories to share from yesterday? How about flower stories, what are your plans for the year? I would love to hear all about it!
