Info Post
Well, the month is over and I have completely finished our Master Bedroom update!  I however, have not finished our kid's bedroom switcharoo projects, so there will definitely be more to update on those!

But anyways, back to my excitement!  Our bedroom is DONE!  W A H O O!

To me, the Master Bedroom is really one of the most important room's in the house, however, it is typically placed on the back-burner or forgotten, in terms of making it a sanctuary.  We as parents tend to put our kid's WAY before  ourselves, which is why our bedroom's also seem to lack in any kind of style, and more frequently seem to be dumping grounds for laundry.  In fact, our previous Master Bedroom was one of the last rooms in the house to ever be worked on or finished, but once it was done, I questioned, "Why did we wait SO long?"  You see, because we are so busy with our kids, jobs and other activities all day, a peaceful place to unwind is actually an EXTREMELY important thing.  Sleep quality drives our moods and our health, and going to sleep in a chaotic setting can really impose upon good sleep!

That's why when we had our little flood disaster, we decided to really place our efforts on our new Master Bedroom.  We knew that there would be loads of stresses coming with re-doing our lower level, on top of living our already chaotic life with three little men and school activities and sports and all other things that come with being a parent.  We would definitely need a place to unwind, peacefully, together.  Something that would help reduce our daily stresses, vs. adding to them.

On that note, as I have mentioned, because we are hoping to get back to our old Master Bedroom someday, this move is somewhat temporary, and all projects I have been doing to our former guest bedroom turned temporary master bedroom, were either be free, or to be utilized as part of the guest room when we move back downstairs, or have to be able to move with us back downstairs to our next master.

And it's pretty funny that I didn't whip out the paint can and give the stark room a new coat of paint, when that's exactly what I really wanted to do.  But not knowing what our future guest room will look like yet, I just couldn't do it.  But I could paint pretty much everything else I came in touch with, because I knew that I could always take it with me to my new space in our lower level.

Here is how the whole thing went down!

We started out with this:

And this:

Which was already a nice peaceful space, however, the bed was only a full size and we really prefer our queen.  So we placed all our guest furniture into storage and starting moving ourselves in.

My first focus was our closet.  We lost both a walk-in and a huge office area off of our previous Master Bedroom, so I wanted to re-invent those spaces in our new home.

The dual closet started out looking like this:

It's current setup was not ideal for clothes storage for two individuals along with a built in office, so we ripped everything out, painted the trim white, the sidewalls a blue gray, and wallpapered the back wall!  {snag all those details here}

Then, we installed a desk and closet storage:

Which now brought the closet from drab to fab!

And then I prettied up the desk with all my accessories from our old desk space, which really brought in some major organized functionality!

However, as gorgeous as we felt our new closet was, there are times when we knew it would need to be closed off, out of site.  And because our previous bi-folds wouldn't open when we brought in our nightstands, we installed two cheapo curtain panels instead!

From there, I started to accessorize the space with a pretty tray that I painted:

Along with some updated frames and a mirror I stole from other parts of the home:

So once all of the pretty stuff was in place, I had to finish things up by ensuring that the space was not only easy on our eyes, but functional as well.

I spent 15 minutes to give my nightstand a quick overhaul, inside and out:

And purged down boatloads of clothing and accessories to get them all to fit into our new itty bitty closet space!

And then we said, "HOORAY!  We are DONE!"  It felt great!  So great to know that we were able to create a sanctuary to retreat to each day, that is easy to maintain and pleasing to be in!

So what once was this:

Is now this!

And this:

Is now this:

We also added in a storage bench that once held a bunch of random toys:

Which is perfect for holding all of our bed linens!

And behind the scenes, I made some teeny tiny updates to the bathroom as well!  Here is the before:

After some trim paint and switching out the hand towels and tossing in a little white vase to corral some beauty supplies, it turned into this:

Which brings a cohesive feeling between the two spaces!

Now, you must be wondering, what did ALL of this cost me?

Honestly, the only investment made was in the closet.  We spent $25 on a piece of MDF for the desk {and had a lot of extra wood for future projects}, and $40 for the closet storage cubes and splurged on the wallpaper which was $120 {and worth every cent!}  Because the desk is our new forever office, even once we move back downstairs, we felt comfortable with each penny we spent.  And of course, closet storage is always essential, no matter what space it belongs to.

We really reused SO many things we already had, and just updated them with fresh coats of paint, that again, we already had.  Like the black shelf turned white for the desk space.  And the frames and mirror and tray turned blue.  And steeling old toy storage for linen storage.  And hounding spaces for baskets and bins galore.  That is why I always say, your home can be the best store to visit!  And paint can always work wonders!

Anyone else tackle their bedroom's this month?  Does this motivate any of you mommy's, to spoil yourselves a little too, because you really deserve a relaxing retreat to call your own!  And as you can see, it can be done for next to nothing with a little imagination and creativity!
